Project Why

Why Union Labor?

As a progressive leader in the nation's labor movement, New Jersey's building and construction trades subscribe to a new labor/management model that is based on collaboration and forging long-term partnerships with skilled workers, contractor management, developers, schools and the community. The New Jersey State Building and Construction Trades Labor Management Council's diverse membership reflects the desire for unions and contractors to work cooperatively to meet the construction industry's ever-fluctuating labor demands with highly skilled, specially trained craftspeople. Today's statewide building and construction trade leaders are committed to elevating the standard of training, which translates into safer, more productive worksites. As a result, New Jersey's state-of-the-art office and industrial buildings, schools and retail centers are among the safest and securest in the nation thanks to union labor and contractors.
